Biography

Sharon Tabor Warren
Sharon Tabor Warren began her career as a tax professional in 1985 when she attended the Basic Individual Income Tax Return course presented by H&R Block. Unlike most of those who take Block’s course, she never worked for the firm. Instead, she was hired by what was then one of the Big Six accounting firms. She worked for Coopers & Lybrand for seven years, during which time she expanded her time on the job from tax season only to more frequent stints when C&L required her services. During this time she also took the remainder of Block’s advanced tax courses in addition to many tax classes offered in-house by Coopers & Lybrand

In 1991, Sharon began working fulltime for C&L and also completed two years of introductory and intermediate accounting courses at the local community college. C&L sold the practice to a regional CPA firm Brown, Edwards & Company in 1994. That September, she sat for the Special Enrollment Examination presented by the Internal Revenue Service and was notified the following January that she’d passed all four parts and earned the title of Enrolled Agent.

As an EA, Sharon completes a minimum of forty hours of continuing professional education on various tax and tax-related topics each year. She resigned from the CPA firm and opened her own practice in 2000. She prefers her single person arrangement so she can always be current on the needs and activities of her clients. She has clients all over the United States, some of whom she’s never met face-to-face. She travels extensively during the “off” season but stays in touch electronically so she’s never out of reach of clients who may encounter a potential crisis or need other assistance.

Sharon is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents (VASEA), and the National Society of Tax Professionals (NSTP). In the VASEA she has served as Secretary, Director and Public Affairs Chair. She’s now a member of the Ethics Committee. She is a past Director and Treasurer of a not-for-profit organization and a member of the Administrative Council at Bethany United Methodist Church.

In addition to travel and reading, Sharon is also a published writer. Her credits include articles both in print and online regarding issues of taxation. She holds a Bachelors of Individualized Studies degree in Corporate-Community Relations from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
